Helping a municipality reposition.
In June 2012, Hoffmann – La Roche announced it would be closing its campus in Nutley, departing after over 75 years. In the wake of their departure, Nutley stood to lose hundreds of jobs and a significant portion of tax revenue, and was faced with the prospect of roughly 50 acres of vacant land.
Topology was hired by Nutley to assist with transitioning the campus back to a productive use and served as Redevelopment Planners for the Phase II project. As part of this work, Topology prepared Redevelopment Plans that allowed for the rehabilitation and repurposing of two iconic office structures at 100 and 200 Metro Boulevard. Today these structures are home to the corporate offices of both Ralph Lauren and Eisai. This phase of redevelopment also included a new plaza and parking structure, which Topology worked with the Township and redeveloper to ensure were designed in a matter that enhanced the overall aesthetics and functionality of the campus, both from the inside and out.
Topology also worked with the Township to launch a community engagement process to help inform future phases of the project and led a multi-faceted engagement exercise that included an in-person Town Hall, intimate engagements with stakeholder groups, a diverse set of online exercises, and tabling at various high-visibility locations throughout the Township.
