Sahana Kumar is a committed professional with expertise in Architecture, Urban Design, and Planning. With a creative background, she merges her design skills with strategic thinking to develop resilient, community-focused design. Her interests include climate sustainability and resilience, and she aims to make a meaningful impact in these areas.
Before joining Topology in September 2024, Sahana worked as a licensed architect for 1.5 years at Bhumiputra Architecture in Bangalore, India. During her time there, she contributed to a range of projects, from master planning and redevelopment to transportation facilities and research initiatives. She was part of the primary team for a residential township master-planning project called ‘ATRIYA’ in Hyderabad. Being part of the main team significantly contributed to her speaking skills when she had the chance to interact with planners, engineers, vendors and clients, increasing her project management. This opportunity of being part of intensive fieldwork allowed her to develop practical and leadership skills. Bringing these skills to Topology, she is committed to creating innovative solutions that address the unique challenges of the diverse projects and communities, ensuring every project meeting client's needs through thorough research, analysis, and problem-solving skills. Sahana possesses a keen eye for detail and strong communication skills to effectively inform clients and the public.
Sahana received her bachelor’s degree in architecture from the RV College of Architecture and completed her master's in urban design from Columbia University. During her time at Columbia, her passion for research inspired her to write a paper titled "Investigating Sea Level Rise Through Archaeology and Cultural Signifiers in India’s Sunken Cities," for which she received a Travel Fellowship Prize in May 2024, at Columbia University in New York City. She traveled across the country to engage with professionals and enhance her research, and she is currently preparing to publish the paper.
Across this wide range of education and experiences, Sahana has developed a wide array of technical expertise, bringing proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and After Effects, in addition to ArcGIS, QGIS and other design tools such as Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD and Grasshopper. Being a hobby artist, Sahana spends her free time sketching and drawing architectural spaces, amongst other things.
